Our Origins

The Story Begins with the Land

The story of Alluvium Cellars begins with a piece of land that has been in our family for generations. Nestled along the Klickitat River in the Columbia Gorge AVA, this cherished property sits on a flood plain, blanketed in alluvial soil—the very earth that inspired our name. Alluvium Creek meanders through the land, a constant reminder of the forces that shaped this unique terroir. On this special plot, we're currently clearing an area to plant our future estate vineyard. Alluvial soil is prized in viticulture for its layered composition of sand, silt, and gravel. This natural mix provides excellent drainage and imparts distinctive mineral characteristics to the grapes, deepening our commitment to crafting wines that truly reflect their place of origin.

Our roots in this land mirror our deep connection to Washington State's burgeoning wine industry. Washington is experiencing a viticultural renaissance, producing fruit of exceptional quality across a diverse array of regions. From the sun-drenched slopes of Red Mountain to the cooler climes of the Yakima Valley, the state offers a rich tapestry of terroirs that translate into wines of remarkable depth and character. It's within this exciting landscape that Alluvium Cellars has taken shape, driven by a passion to showcase the unique qualities of Washington wine.

Our Founders

The journey of Alluvium Cellars is intimately tied to its founders, Tyson and Brittany Trautmann. As long-time wine enthusiasts, Tyson and Brittany found themselves experimenting with winemaking in their garage, quickly realizing they not only enjoyed the process but had a natural aptitude for it.

Recognizing the potential of their venture, Tyson enrolled in the enology program at UC Davis, honing his skills in the science of winemaking. Brittany's creative vision shapes the Alluvium experience beyond the bottle. Her talent for design is evident in our striking tasting room, eye-catching wine labels, and overall brand aesthetic.

A Growing Footprint & Team

The stars aligned when a friend who owned a local cidery decided he had outgrown his production space in Woodinville's Warehouse District. Tyson and Brittany seized the opportunity, taking over the space and transforming it into the home of Alluvium Cellars.

Shortly after opening, Angela Chapman, Brittany's longtime friend, joined to manage the Tasting Room and Events. Her expertise has been pivotal in creating the fun, unpretentious environment that sets Alluvium apart, perfectly aligning with our vision of making fine wine accessible and enjoyable for all.
